Follow up of Pakistani family arrested in Saudi Arabia accused of Smuggling Heroin.
Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf once again proves to be ‘influential’. He is going to help the distressed families by talking with Saudi “high” officials. That happened when a TV host (probably Jasmine Manzoor of Business Plus TV) recommend father of one of the lady arrested in Saudi Arabia to talk with Musharraf as last resort which actually worked. Musharraf assured Pakistani family that he would use his influence with the Saudi Arabian government to get them released.
The family was detained after Saudi customs officials found heroin obscured in the slippers of their luggage, which were provided as a keepsake by Al Huda travel agency’s agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain. The detained family has repeatedly claimed innocence, and insisted that their travel agent had given the slippers to them as reported earlier on the blog.
Travel agent, Syed Sarwat Hussain, is already in police custody in Karachi along with his wife Shafia. They surrender to police giving statement that the crime is being done “through them not by them”. It is strange that the efforts of government are not so impressive in this regard while Mr. Musharraf assured that he could help the detained Pakistanis. He is a strong and influential person in Pakistani politics still for sure.

GOLMAAL; Sherry & Rabbani Resignation not accepted yet

Few months ago two federal ministers Sherry and Rabbani had demanded reinstatement of deposed judges of superior courts against their party’s will and paid for it by resigning. People saluted them for their daring decision but Cabinet division has not issued a notification about the resignation as reported by Dawn.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has not yet accepted the resignation of Sherry Rehman (former federal minister for information and broadcasting as well as women development) and Mian Raza Rabbani (former federal minister for inter-provincial coordination) from the federal cabinet.
Whole political gimmick was played by PPP to distract people from the core issue of Judges Restoration, although they had to reinstate them later on. The whole practice made Sherry Rehman and Raza Rabbani national figure over night. But there was nothing seen or heard from both of them after restoration of Judiciary. May be the award of that silence is arrived.
Prime minister may assign them new tasks in an expected cabinet reshuffle. Sherry Rehman may be asked to continue her work as minister for women development and Raza Rabbani may be reinstated as law minister if President Zardari agrees.

The portraits of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah have been missing from the Prime Minister House and Presidential House as blogger Farhan spotted it first and reported as “The terrible Blunder at the presidency”. Later on Aly B reported in as “Pakistan – No Longer A Living Monument Of The Quaid?”, Teeth Maestro as “Zardari throws out Quaid-e-Azam from the Presidency”. Afterwards it was revealed by The News and Geo TV.
President Asif Ali Zardari hosted a reception in the honor of national cricket team on winning the ICC Twenty20 World Cup title. On this occasion, the team players and officials had a group photo with President Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. The photo has following personalities in the Backdrop;
- Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto,
- Benazir Bhutto,
- Bilawal Zardari Bhutto
- President Zardari
But the conventional picture of Quaid-e-Azam, founder of Pakistan was missing. I have no idea about whether it was there before or not but it is a custom or more or less an obligation to hang Quaid’s picture in Government offices and Presidency is not an exception. As a Pakistani citizen I protest strongly against this incident and urge all of you to raise voice in condemning this act. President and PM should apologize for hurting our sentiments.

Today is the day when A great leader of Pakistan was born years ago. The lady despite of her political views admired by me for her intellectual personality and grace. She was very well educated and a brave women. When I compared her with some of other leaders of political parties she truly beats them. The negative point which I thought or her downfall was because of her husband and scandals associated with him. She had a vision and if this time life allows her she would definitely impress Pakistanis.
A graceful lady and a visionary Leader departs after a mysterious assassination. The whole nation mourns on the loss. Soon after her death Pakistan went through elections and PPP came into power. It was expected that her assassin will now be exposed but after the efforts of Scotland Yard and UN people are still waiting for the name.
She was truly a reflection of her name. I found her and Princess Diana the most Prettiest and the most unfortunate on earth.
Her Profile:
- Daughter of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (a political leader and former Prime Minister) and Nusrat Bhutto (former Member of Parliament and Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan)
-
Aged 16 sent to Harvard University
-
1973 Father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, became Prime Minister of Pakistan
-
1977 returns to Pakistan. Martial law declared, Bhutto’s father is arrested and Benazir is placed under house arrest
-
1979 Benazir Bhutto’s father is hanged. She becomes leader of Pakistan People’s Party. Spends seven years in exile or under house arrest
-
April 1986 Bhutto returns to Pakistan
-
Married, December, 1987 to Asif Ali Zardari (in business, twice elected Member of National Assembly and Senator)
-
Pakistan Peoples Party, Karachi, Pakistan co-chair, beginning in 1986
-
Becomes Prime Minister in 1988 but her government is illegally dismissed in August 1990.
-
Comes to power after her party won a majority in elections held in October 1993.
-
Government once again dismissed illegally in November 1996.
-
1996 Bhutto removed from government and lived in exile in UK
- Children Bilawal, Bakhtawar, Asifa
- Assassinated in Rawalpindi 28 Dec, 2008

- President Zardari visited the Bhuttos’ mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto and placed a wreath and 56 bouquets at the grave of Benazir Bhutto marking her 56th birthday and offered Fateha.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is scheduled to celebrate PPP’s assassinated chairperson, Benazir Bhutto’s 56th birthday by donating blood throughout the country, however no cake cutting ceremony will be held in this regard.
The main gathering would be held at Naudero where President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to donate his blood. PPP’s leadership including Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah would also be present in BB’s native town. They, along with the party workers, would also offer Fateha at her grave. The Sindh chief minister has already left for Larkana on Saturday.
According to PPP’s acting Sindh Secretary Information Waqar Mehdi, the blood collected in the blood donation drive would be sent to save lives of the Pakistan Army fighting against the terrorists in tribal areas. He said that blood donations camps would be set up in each district headquarters.
According to him, PPP would set up blood donations camps in five defunct districts of Karachi, where workers and leaders would start donating blood from 11:00 am in the morning.
Indian Weapons found in Swat

The Pakistani military through its own channels has shared evidence with the U.S. military about Indian support for terrorism in Pakistan’s tribal belt and Swat.
The evidence was embarrassing for the Americans because they have been defending Indian presence in Afghanistan and have also been defending the opening up of Indian consulates in areas close to the Pakistani border.
More embarrassing for the Americans is that besides some Indian weapons and the proof on the presence of Indian-origin special forces personnel and assets, a large amount of standard issue U.S. military weapons have been confiscated by the Pakistanis from dead terrorists. Washington is explaining this by saying these weapons were sold on the black market by the U.S.-trained new Afghan army. But the quality of the weapons – including anti-aircraft guns and launchers – and their quantity eliminates the possibility that smuggling is the only explanation.
The Pakistani government is reluctant to make the evidence public, possibly because it does not want a confrontation with the Indians and the Americans. But the Pakistani military has made its strategic red lines clear.
This is one explanation for why U.S. Undersecretary of State William Burns raised for the first time in New Delhi last week the need to “trim” the Indian consulates working in Afghanistan, among other things.
A number of the Indian army standard issue Vickers-Berthier (VB) light machine gun, manufactured in India, have been found by the Pakistani military in the hands of the terrorists in Swat. This LMG has a 30-round box magazine and a bipod stand, and is sometimes mistaken for the Bren. Apart from India, it was only sold to a few Baltic and South American states. The picture here has been procured by BRASSTACKS from its own sources in Swat.
In addition to weapons and local assets, a large number of trained special operations personnel working for intelligence agencies are believed to be moving along with the local recruits of the Pakistani Taliban. These foreign operators pose as ‘Islamic fighters’. These foreigners are in addition to foreign fighters that have existed in the area before 2001. The mysterious new foreigners are believed to have introduced in Pakistan actions such as group throat slitting, mass executions, brutal murders, and kidnapping, molesting and raping of women of the poor villagers in the tribal belt in the name of religion. Pakistani soldiers have been consistently discovering uncircumcised dead terrorist fighters in the area over the past three years, something unusual for a militia fighting in the name of Islam. Pictures were posted on this forum of the latest discovery of such fighters. Click here to see the pictures.
The bulk of the heavy weapons, communications equipment and huge stacks of cash owned by the so-called Pakistani Taliban are all supplied by unknown sources in Afghanistan. The size of this entire enterprise precludes the possibility that this is the work of unorganized elements. Supporting evidence suggests that there is more than one intelligence agency in Afghanistan involved in this operation.
It is unthinkable that the Indians would risk sending Indian-made weapons to terrorists. It is believed that these weapons were sent in small numbers to a select group of operatives who slipped from Afghanistan to Pakistan’s tribal belt. The most probable thinking might have been that the agents operating these weapons will not fight on the front lines and will not be captured. Obviously the foreign backers of the so-called Pakistani Taliban did not anticipate that the Pakistani military might at some go for an all-out war against these terrorists by draining the swamp, which means emptying up Swat from its civilian population in order to have a free hand against the terrorists.

PML-N demanded a registration of a murder case against General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, his immediate arrest and the inclusion of his name in the exit control list (ECL).
Speaking at a press conference Spokesman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Muhammad Siddiqul Farooq called for a judicial inquiry into the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto without any uncalled for delay and stressed that there was no reason for any delay after the independence of judiciary.
Recalling the press conference addressed by PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in January 2008, he said Mr Zardari had said ‘the email of Ms Bhutto to Wolf Blitzers of CNN on October 26, 2007 be treated as her dying statement,’ according to which Pervez Musharraf was responsible for her killing. He said Ms Bhutto had stated ‘If anything happens to me, I will hold Pervez Musharraf responsible.’
He regretted that one and a half year had passed since the assassination of an important personality of the country, but her killer was free to roam about and deliver lectures. The accountability of General Musharraf for abrogation of the constitution for the second time on November 3, 2007 is also demanded.
Under Article six of the constitution, the crime entails death sentence or life imprisonment. since the existing parliament had not taken criminal steps of providing constitutional cover to the unconstitutional act of Musharraf, the parliament and the government should hold him accountable in accordance with the constitution.
