The inaugural Dubai Design Week, held in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), taking place from 26th – 31st October, 2015 with participation of 8 talented designers from Pakistan. Collectibles Pakistan has shown immense support for budding designers to let them portray a positive image of Pakistan at an international platform.
The design exhibition was arranged in pavilions representing various regions of the world, ours named ABWAB. It’s a series of six pavilions built to showcase the work of designers, studios and curators from six different countries in the MENASA region. ABWAB means ‘doors’ in Arabic and the pavilion acts as a direct portal to the region’s local design talent.
Pakistan along with other countries from the region has been invited to present the best of their country’s design and were seen presenting uniquely designed pieces under the theme Games: The Element of Play in Culture.
Curated by Salman Jawed, the Pakistan pavilion “dalaan” features work from a multidisciplinary team of 8 brilliant artists including; Ali S Husain, Faiza Adamjee, Mustafa Mehdi, Hamza Masood Khan, Hina Fancy, Zaid Hameed, Saad Khurshid and Muniba Rashid.
The designs of a kancha table, A luddo drawer, Henna screen prints, pitthu garam and whirling lattos will definitely makes one feel nostalgic about Pakistan and your childhood as these are the games we grew up playing. Interesting theme but very well executed by the designers on such a huge international platform. Kudos to Collectibles Pakistan for believing in local talent and supporting them all the way to the exhibition. It definitely is a moment of pride for our country.
